The Baja Swimwear Photography Workshop isn’t a classroom — it’s an adventure.

Over four days on the southern edge of the Baja Peninsula, you’ll chase light across raw coastlines, desert horizons, and hidden coves. You’ll work with professional models, real locations, and a small crew of like-minded creators — all guided by photographer Ben Horton, whose work has appeared in National Geographic, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition, and more.

This is a workshop built for photographers who crave more than perfect exposure — who want to tell stories of heat, wind, water, and motion. Every day is shaped by the light, the weather, and the unpredictable beauty of Baja.

It’s part mentorship, part expedition, and part editorial production — a rare chance to create portfolio-ready swimwear imagery in one of the most cinematic landscapes on earth.

April 24–27, 2026 · San José del Cabo, Mexico

Space for Up to 6 Photographers

About the Experience

This is a small, high-end workshop designed for photographers who want to create stunning swimwear and lifestyle imagery while learning the flow of professional editorial production.

You’ll work alongside a curated team of industry professionals — from models and stylists to local assistants — in an environment that balances technical learning, creative exploration, and adventure.

Each day’s location and lighting plan are chosen that morning, based on weather and the best available conditions.

You’ll shoot everything from open desert and coastal cliffs to calm, glassy bays and private villas — each setting hand-picked for texture, tone, and atmosphere.

Led by photographer and explorer Ben Horton — the eye behind some of today’s most striking editorial and adventure imagery.

Ben began his career with National Geographic, documenting remote expeditions and conservation stories. His work evolved into high-end commercial and editorial photography that bridges adventure and luxury, shooting campaigns and features for global brands and magazines including Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition.

In this workshop, Ben shares the creative and technical process he’s refined through years of field experience — from directing models and reading light to building visual stories that balance beauty, strength, and emotion.

You’ll learn by doing — shooting alongside Ben in real locations, under changing conditions, with direct guidance and feedback that will elevate both your portfolio and your vision.

Taught by a photographer who’s lived the adventure — and brings that energy to every frame.

Schedule Overview

Every day in Baja unfolds differently.

The light, the wind, and the ocean decide where we’ll go — from private villas and sailboats to remote beaches, tide pools, and authentic Mexican settings that few photographers ever see.

Each session is built around a concept — from mastering natural light to building visual stories that feel alive. The itinerary below gives a sense of the rhythm, but each day’s location will be revealed the night before, based on the best conditions.

Day 1 — Arrival & Creative Orientation

Theme: Vision and collaboration

  • Afternoon arrivals and check-in at our shared boutique hotel

  • Evening welcome dinner with models and creative team

  • Creative discussion on narrative, direction, and working with available light

  • Optional short walk to shoot the last light of day and get comfortable in the environment

We start with connection — to the place, the people, and the creative process.

Day 2 — Beaches, Water, and Movement

Theme: Working with natural light and motion

  • Early-morning shoot in a remote coastal setting — possibilities include open beaches, tide pools, or calm coves with glassy water

  • Late-morning workshop exploring how to create strong imagery in imperfect light

  • Golden-hour session that contrasts the morning’s tones — shifting from soft and organic to bold and dynamic

Each scene is selected for its light and energy — Baja’s coastlines are our studio.

Day 3 — Desert, Architecture, and Style

Theme: Composing with texture and shape

  • Morning shoot in desert or architectural environments — often at a private villa or contemporary Baja home with strong lines and shadow play

  • Afternoon creative block for editing, mentorship, or rest

  • Sunset session in an authentic Mexican location — textured walls, old stone, and warm color for lifestyle or fashion-driven storytelling

A balance of minimal design and cultural richness — exploring both modern and traditional Baja aesthetics.

Day 4 — Sailboat & Portfolio Refinement

Theme: Editorial storytelling and reflection

  • Morning sailboat shoot near Cabo San Lucas — open ocean light, natural motion, and elegant editorial styling

  • Afternoon editing and image selection time

  • Group portfolio review, open discussion, and closing dinner celebration

We finish where sea meets sky — translating everything learned into a final story.

Flexibility Built In

The schedule adapts to the environment.

Some days we may trade the desert for the sea, or move a villa session to sunrise if the light calls for it. The goal is to shoot where the conditions — and inspiration — are best.
